The images on this page are from our October 2007 trip to Tuscany and Umbria. Six cemeteries are featured on this page.

Large cemetery just outside Cortona

Etruscan Tombs - Castellina in Chianti
We stumbled upon these ancient Etruscan tombs en route to two small villages in the Chianti region.
City Cemetery - Castellina in Chianti
We found this small city cemetery by pure chance on our way to two small villages in the Chianti region.
One of the fascinating things we noticed about the Italian cemeteries was how common it was to have a photo of the deceased displayed on the marker.
Santa Croce - Florence
An amazing collection of famous Italian artists, scientists and scholars are interred within the walls of Santa Croce.

City Cemetery - Florence
European War Cemetery - Florence
This cemetery, just south of Florence, is a memorial to the soldiers from European countries who died liberating Italy in World War II. There are no Americans here (there is another cemetery with US and British graves) but many countries from the British Isles to Russia, Denmark and even the Middle East are represented here.
